The Philippine Scouts was a military
organization of the U.S. Army from 1901 until
the end of WWII. Made up of native Filipinos
under the command of American officers,
with several Filipinos receiving commissions
from the U.S. Military Academy.
President Franklin Roosevelt awarded the
first three Medals of Honor of WWII to
Philippine Scouts. These were Sgt. Jose
Calugas, Sr., Lt. Alexander R. Nininger, Jr.,
and Lt. Willibald C. Bianchi.
